HEATHER DOES CONCORD WEST TOASTMASTERS PROUD – YET AGAIN.

Heather Gordon took at first place in the Area 6 International Speech Contest held at the Ashfield Catholic Club on Saturday 28th February.
With her speech entitled ‘Global Cooling’ Heather fought off stiff competition from seasoned rival Club Burwood Toastmasters.
In addition Lyndal Eager-Tucker who was Runner Up to arch rivals, Burwood, also superbly represented Concord West in the Area 6 Evaluation Contest.

Club Member and Area 6 Governor John Hughson officiated as Contest Chair and Past District Governor Jan Vecchio stood in for Phillip Division Governor Peter Crosby as Chief Judge.
We wish Heather all the best as she now goes on to represent our Club and Area 6 for a second time in just 2 Division Contests on Friday 20th March.

Heather and Lyndal’s names join an impressive list of Concord West representatives on our Honour Role; http://concordwesttoastmasters.weebly.com/our-achievements

CONCORD WEST’S SECOND DISTRICT FINALIST IN 2 YEARS

Following the success of Club Member Philip Bendeich in the 2013 District Evaluation Contest, Heather Gordon represented Concord West, Area 6 and Phillip Division at the District Semi Annual Conference on 8th November in the Table Topics Contest.
While unplaced this is an extra-ordinary feat to reach this level and the Club is very proud of Heather’s achievement.
Regrettably no photos of the Participants were ever posted.

SPEECHCRAFT INTENSIVE 2014

Saturday 22nd November proved to be a highly successful day of both intensive and extensive learning and presentation in what was the Clubs first ever attempt at condensing the traditional 6 Sessions (13 weeks) into an all day Seminar of interactive workshops.
With 8 participants and 10 highly experienced presenters covering the Toastmaster syllabus of:
  • ·      Selecting a Topic
  • ·      Organising a Speech
  • ·      Introducing a Speaker
  • ·      Impromptu Speaking
  • ·      The Art of Evalaution
  • ·      Visual Aids
  • ·      Body Language and Gestures
  • ·      Voice
  • ·      Toastmasters the Organisation
  • ·      And a Summary and Q&A

Even despite some tricky logistics and competition with a musical performance of the Addams Family Musical downstairs at concord RSL we managed a very powerful day.

Many thanks to: John for initiating the day and to President Katherine for Chairing the event supported by presentations from: Daniel, Peter C, Susan Newton (from Area 40), Mark C, Heather G, Glen H, Philip B, and Paul V.

PHILIP DIVISION HUMOUROUS AND TABLE TOPICS CONTEST

Concord West Club Member Heather acquitted herself admirably representing both our Club and Area 6 in the Table Topics Contest, taking out First Place and being just the second member of Concord West Club to proceed through to District Competition in 2 years.
Club Member John Hughson officiated in the role of Toastmasters for the Table Topics Contest as Area 6 Governor.

While Phillip Division Governor and Club Member Peter Crosby put on one of the sharpest Phillip Division Contests seen for some time.

CONCORD FAIR A SURPRISE SUCCESS FOR CONCORD WEST TOASTMASTERS

The decision by Club President Katherine to participate in this year’s Concord Carnival on Sunday 12th October turned out to be an unexpected success.
Conversations with many visitors resulted directly in the recruitment of 3 new members.
The main push by the Club was for the upcoming SpeechCraft Intensive on 22nd November which resulted in 5 attendees including the 3 new Members.

A big thank you to a number of Club Members who helped out on the day – in the heat, including; Katherine, John, Heather, Juliana, Glen, Philip and Anna.
