S@A Leo called the meeting to order after some urgent furniture rearrangements were needed to accommodate 24 people at a block-buster meeting.
Presidents Welcome –Philip welcomed 3 Visitors; Heather, Faz and Sanga returning for a second meeting and Patrick, Priyanka and Sreekanth for the first time.

Chairman for the First Session – Meghan

Agenda UpdateMeghan.
Leadership Manual Evaluations – Kymberley.

Toastmaster Philip introduced 2 Speakers.
Peter presented an Educational from the Advanced Communicator Series – Know Your Audience. Peter added an excellent mix of both Toastmaster and work experience into the framework set out by Toastmasters to look at the crucial issues in advance of giving any form of presentation or speech. Covering a broad range of considerations this Educational will have been very helpful to newer members as they consider speeches they should be preparing.
The second speaker was Dai Fei with another of her Advance Communicator presentations involving the Interview. This time Dai Fei had to conduct an interview and made an exemplary job of it as she interviewed Sam about his career as a Lawyer. Pacing and listening in order to respond appropriately are crucial in this exercise and Dai Feu carried it off with great poise and professionalism.

Peter was Evaluated by Daniel who made some very experienced contributions and congratulated Peter on his pace and clarity of delivery.
Dai Fei was Evaluated by Glenn D making some very astute observations regarding the videoing that was taking place to record her task while commending her on her poise and management of the situation that came from excellent preparation.

Following the 10-minute Break Philip assumed the role of Chairman for the second half and asked Rino to deliver the Toast. Rino took up a very topical issue paying tribute to the contribution of Immigrants to our multi-cultural society with a Toast to “Immigrants”.

Chairman Philip then handed the meeting over to Toastmaster John for the second speech session who introduced Tiffany with her Ice Breaker Speech entitled: “My Journey to Toastmasters”. Tiffany excelled herself with a great speech that combined humour and pathos as she provided superb snap shot insights into her life story entwined around her fears of public speaking and the need for some renewed guidance and confidence.
Tiffany was very ably and compassionately Evaluated by Kymberley who like most of us was enormously impressed by Tiffany’s introductory speech.

Daniel was then introduced as Table Topics Master setting us the challenge of responding to a number of memorable ‘Olympic inspired’ scenarios, provoking the usual array of humorous and offbeat responses across a range of speakers of varied experience. Always a challenge… but always a lot of fun.

Evaluators for the Odd and Even numbered speakers were Lyndal and Sam who both very capably tackled the challenge of keeping track of short multiple speakers and topics with plenty of good advice and encouragement.

Katrina presented the Ums and Ahs Report with great honesty.
Mark presented the Grammarian’s Report and acknowledged a considerable use of The Word of the Day.
John presented the Big Ears challenge with some phrases that had everyone stumped.
Dai Fei presented a well-managed Timers Report.

The General Evaluation followed with Glen H making some very helpful observations and encouraging contributions as he provided feedback for all those involved in roles during the evening.
Forward Planner – Meghan
Guests Comments – Our 5 Guests provided some very positive feedback and observations of the evening’s proceedings.

President’s Closing Remarks – President Philip provided Past President John with an opportunity to make a special presentation to his outgoing Vice President Education Kimberley who was unfortunately absent at the Official Executive Handover at the last meeting. John acknowledge the superb job that Kimberly had done right throughout the year and (in a complicit conspiracy with the incoming Vice President Education – Meghan) presented Kimberley with a bottle of bubbly and her Certificate of Acknowledgement as a way of making up for missing out at the last meeting.

Immediate Past President John presenting both a Certificate of Acknowledgement
and a bottle of Bubbly to his outgoing Vice President Education Kimberley.
President Philip then called up a couple of new Members who had recently presented their Ice Breaker Speeches and presented them with Ribbons in recognition of this first important step. Those present included, Rino, Katrina, Leo and Tiffany.

Apologies – Kimberley, Bret and Glen H.

Chairman for the First Session – Daniel
Reading of the Mission of the Club Peter
Word of the Day –Sam stood in with an impromptu challenge for us to incorporate the word: Gravitas in the evening’s deliberations.
Introductions – Daniel asked us to reflect on the nature of ‘Change’ in its many manifestations.
Agenda UpdateMeghan (in her new role as Vice President Education).
Leadership Manual Evaluations – Paul.

Toastmaster Lyndal introduced 2 Speakers.
Paul presented Speech #10 from the Competent Communicator Manual for no doubt the second or third time round with a memorable recollection of a recent road trip entitled; “The Outback”. Paul took us all on an inspiring journey into the very isolated heart of our continent with a story full of descriptive language and ironic humour worthy of any travel log.

The second Speaker was Daniel T who took on yet another multiple presentation from the CC Manual – Getting Comfortable with Visual Aids with a speech entitled: “Why Bother – Settle Down”, in which Daniel challenged us to think about the extent to which we as a nation and community get very engrossed and involved in watching sport unfold both on the field and on our televisions and become caught up in acquiring copious memorabilia. In the lead up to the Olympics Daniel’s presentation was both timely and relevant as many people who do not usually get so easily engrossed in weekly sport take on great national pride and competitiveness during the fortnight of international competition.

Paul was Evaluated by whose analysis is always both eloquent and forensic in both observation and points for improvement.
Daniel was Evaluated by Philip demonstrating a very clear example of a Toastmaster Evaluation with sound listening and observation skills as well as an excellent balance of points for praise and improvement.

The meeting then went to an extended Break where we all enjoyed fellowship and a variety of finger food provided by the outgoing Executive as a way of marking the transition of the Executive Handover.

Leo called the meeting back to order after about 25 minutes and handed the meeting over to Sam as Chairman for the second half of the meeting.

With no further prepared speeches the meeting the Toast delivered by Outgoing President John with a commendation not only to his entire outgoing Executive, but also to all those who take up the challenge of stepping up to take on roles of responsibility that challenge us with a Toast to: “Those who Step Up”.

Chairman Sam then handed the meeting over to Marlowe to be the Table Topics Master. Marlowe painted a vey creative scenario of a casting agent recruiting performers for roles in radical remake of Dancing with Wolves in which each speaker was able to select a predetermined role from the film and do their best to audition for that role. Fabulous fun and an inspiring challenge.

The Evaluators: Glenn D and Lyndal as always provided both specific and broader observations and advice to the participating Speakers.

Rowenna had not lost any of her ‘Toastmastership’ in providing an excellent assessment of the evenings Ums and Ahs.
Katrina presented her first ever Grammarian’s Report acknowledging a wide range of responses to various grammatical nuances during the evening.
The Big Ears report was presented by Meghan who picked up on a number of challenges to our collective listening skills.
Leo delivered his first Timers Report with great precision.
Peter then unpacked a careful observation of those members whose roles in the evening’s proceedings had not yet been assessed in the all important General Evaluation providing both analytical and helpful observations.
Forward Planner – Meghan
Guests Comments – Our 4 Guests provided some very positive feedback which is always so helpful to the Members as much as it is to the Executive.
President’s Closing Remarks – President Philip deflected to Past President John who took a few minutes to formally acknowledge his outgoing Executive and thank them for their fabulous support and involvement s well as present them with Certificates acknowledging their contribution. A special mention was made of outgoing VPE Kimberley in her absence.
Past President John then invited incoming President Philip to formally present his incoming Executive to the meeting.

CONCORD WEST TOASTMASTERS MEETING No: 1131 – Tuesday 26th June 2012

Daniel called the meeting to order in the absence of the S@A.
Presidents Welcome – John welcomed 2 Visitors; Patrick for his first meeting and Sean visiting for a second time.
Apologies – Kimberley, Paul, Angela, Bernard, Peter and Brett.

Chairman for the First Session – Daniel
Reading of the Mission of the Club Katrina
Word of the DayGrammarian Glen H presented us with the challenge of incorporating the word – Pragmatic – into the evening’s deliberations.
Introductions – Daniel asked us to reflect on the “The Great Aussie Sickie” as we all had our first opportunity to get onto our feet with our personal introductions.
Agenda UpdateMeghan (standing in for Kimberley).
Leadership Manual Evaluations – Meghan.

Lyndal as Toastmaster introduced Leo his third speech (almost in record time) from the Competent Communicator Manual – Get to the Point – entitled: Network Marketing – It’s an Asset, Not a Job. Leo demonstrated intimate knowledge and understanding of the topic as he unpacked a well prepared and well organized exposition of Network Marketing in almost exactly the stipulated time and with only minimal reference to his notes. Well done.
The second speaker was John presenting his final requirement as both outgoing Club President and for completing his Advanced Leader Bronze with a presentation of ‘Moments of Truth’, from the Successful Club Series. Despite the fact that Toastmasters have put these presentations into a very professional package of Notes and PowerPoint documents this is an extremely extensive presentation taking a lot longer than the allotted time in order to deliver it in any form of appropriate detail. The general purpose being a review of the club’s status in keeping with specific guidelines set by TI.

Leo was Evaluated by Dai Fei who gave great encouragement and demonstrated equal empathy of the challenges Leo is takeling with English pronunciation.
John was Evaluated by Glen H who sympathized with the challenge of covering so much ground within the timeframe.

Daniel called the meeting back to order following the Break and handed the meeting over to Glenn D as Chairman for the second half of the meeting.

Dai Fei delivered a thought provoking Toast to: “Our Dreams” with a well-developed preamble to which I m sure we could all relate in part.

Toastmaster for the Second Speech Session was Sam who introduced Daniel and Philip.

Daniel presented his Ice Breaker Speech without a title but drew us in with a very unique and highly personal observation of his first ever experience with the term – Ice Breaker – that was both highly amusing and quite poignant. Daniel then went on to induce himself and gave us an insight into his background in a very well prepared speech that was both polished and informative.

Philip delivered a Speech from the Competent Communicator Manual #6 Vocal Variety entitled: ‘Leaders Who Rock’. In a flawlessly delivered speech Philip painted a picture of leadership attributes using a rowing boat analogy. Philip’s experienced was clearly evident in his use of vocal variety in what was a textbook delivery with some very solid examples of good leadership.

Daniel D was Evaluated by Daniel T (if that makes sense) and it was most fitting that Daniel receive the experience and astute observation that Daniel T can provide given the number of Ice Breaker speeches he will have heard over the years.
Philip was Evaluated by Lyndal in another very descriptive and emotive presentation that focused on the objectives and the delivery as much as the content.

Chairman Glen handed the meeting over to Sam to be the Table Topics Master. Sam had prepared a series Dual Word Expressions eg; Over & Out, Back & White, Give & Take etc. Each speaker would draw one out of a box and then provide their impressions and thoughts on the topic they had selected. An innovative concept that provoked some interesting responses from both members and Visitors alike.

The Evaluators: John and Glen H provided both specific and broader observations and advice to the participating Speakers.

Dai Fei gave an account of the evenings Ums and Ahs.
Glen H’s Grammarian’s Report acknowledged a number of folk who had utilised the Word of the Day and gave a wide range of responses to various grammatical nuances during the evening.
Katrina extracted some excellent words and phrases to challenge us all with Big Ears.
Marlowe delivered her first Timers Report and was able to maintain the ongoing take on how John’s earlier speech had set somewhat of a Club record for going overtime.
Mark then delivered his first ever General Evaluation providing both analytical and helpful observations of the evening proceedings and permitting Evaluation of those who had not received feedback.
Forward Planner – Meghan
Guests Comments – We received some encouraging feedback from our Guests including a response to John’s Educational that had at least helped to unravel some of the mystery of Toastmasters.
President’s Closing Remarks – John presented both Marlowe and Leo with their long awaited Name Badges and thanked those members of his outgoing Executive who were in attendance before appealing to all members to make a special effort to attend the next meeting which will be the more formal Hand Over Meeting.
Meeting Closed – A fair bit later than scheduled.
