CONCORD WEST NOMINATED FOR A CANADA BAY COUNCIL SUSTAINABILITY AWARD

Despite some considerable confusion which started with Concord Yaralla being contacted and advised – they – had been nominated for a Sustainability Award and received an invitation to attend the Awards Night at the Rhodes Pheonix Restaurant on Monday 23rd May.
However when (Concord West) Club Member and VPPR John Hughson who is also currently a Club Mentor at Concord Yaralla Toastmasters attended (representing Concord Yaralla) he found that it was in fact Concord West Toastmasters who had been nominated.
First mystery?

Concord West had been nominated for a Partnership Award but who and why the Club had been nominated?
Second mystery?

Concord West Nomination on the evening’s program

During the early part of the evening a continuous slide presentation showed images representing the nominees. Up on the screen came a photo of John receiving his Area 6 Evaluation Trophy from our own Area Director Katherine Triulcio and Phillip Division Director Susan Newton. So where did they get that photo?
Third mystery?

Part of the evening’s Slide Show Presentation
Concord West did not receive an award in that category. However as the awards moved on a Category for Years of service first dealt with 25 years and then 50 years. Completely out of the blue up came the Toastmaster Logo and recognition of Concord Toastmasters. Despite there not being – nor ever have been – a Concord Toastmasters, John went up to accept the presentation. But was beaten to the podium by 2 complete strangers.
Fourth mystery?

We duly shook the Mayors hand and smiled for a photo and the 2 mystery men shot off into the crowd with the presentation plaque in hand, deliberately avoiding any contact.
Fifth mystery?

Later John caught up with 2 founding members of Concord West Toastmasters who were in attendance to ask if they knew who the 2 other gentlemen were? They didn’t know or recognise either of them.
Sixth mystery?

At the conclusion of the evening John approached one of the organisers to find out who and what had happened. Given there was a lot of confusion and people milling about the young lady from the Council was unable to shed any light on who these people may have been – or confirm if there had been a confusion over the Award itself.
Seventh mystery!
