Toastmaster Daniel introduced 3 Speech Sessions with 4
Speakers.
First off was a dual presentation by Immediate
past President John and long-standing Club member Daniel to outline both the
needs and importance of the upcoming 50th Anniversary Dinner.
Using a PowerPoint support John took us through
the tasks that need to be filled in order for the evening to work and showed
how the tasks can be handled by various teams encompassing; Budget, Promotions,
The Club Entertainment and Logistics.
Daniel then took the floor to provide some
historical background to the Club and the significance of this 50th
continuous year of operation.
The main purpose of the presentation being to
enthuse all members to take on a role and contribute to the evenings success.
Daniel (as Toastmaster then introduced Farzard
with his Ice Breaker Speech; ‘Doors of Opportunity’ in which Farzard
encapsulated his life story in am extremely well structured and very
confidently presented speech that defied the normal tenativeness of an Ice
Breaker.
Daniel then introduced Ua with his second CC
Speech entitled; Universal Athletics Pty Ltd in which Ua revealed an whole other
side to his life, interests and work presenting his journey into the world of
sports management. Another extremely well prepared and confidently delivered
second speech from Ua.
Farzard was Evaluated
by Paul who particularly praised him for his structure and confidence in
delivering a smooth speech without notes.
Ua was Evaluated
by Kimberley who made particular reference to the story telling technique he
employed in taking us on a journey as much as providing us with an insight into
a rarely accessed world.
John and Daniel were not specifically Evaluated as a matter of time
expedience.
Following the 10-minute Break Glenn D became Chairman for the second half quoting an
excerpt from ‘Chairman’ Mao’s ‘Little Red Book’ that was most appropriate to
the conduct of the meeting. Glenn then asked Tiffany to deliver the Toast. With brief but very succinct
delivery we Toasted ‘‘All the Twighlight (TV series) fans”.
Chairman Glenn D then handed the meeting over to Toastmaster Kimberley who introduced
Lyndal with a very unusual ‘Mono Drama Reading’ as part of the Advanced
Communicator Manual. Reading a monolog ‘Your Last Day’ Lyndal relayed a
discussion between her teenage daughter and a friend dealing with some tough
emotional issues in life.
Lyndal was Evaluated by Glen H who presented a very
balanced and objective appraisal of this most unusual task which Lyndal had
delivered with passion and power.
Brett was then introduced as Table Topics Master establishing a very
unusual scenario in which participants had to embed themselves as ‘Heros of
World War II’.
Upon their return from the War, the challenge
was to put yourself in the role of a hero nominated by Table Topics Master
Brett and explain your contribution played in the final victory. A very
challenging task which was handled extremely well by some participants but also
served as a great experience for newer members and Visitors who participated.
Evaluators for the Odd and Even numbered speakers were Paul
and Peter who both very capably tackled the challenge of keeping track of short
multiple speakers and topics with plenty of good advice and encouragement.
Leo presented the Ums and Ahs Report.
Paul presented
the Grammarian’s Report and acknowledgement the complexity of use of The Word of the Day.
Marlowe presented the Big Ears challenge with confectionery reward.
Glen H presented a well-managed Timers Report.
Mark presented a very capable General Evaluation in
his second attempt at this very challenging role providing balanced feedback
and suggestion for all those tasks that make the Agenda function during the
evening as well as taking the opportunity to provide some feedback to John and
Daniel for their un-evaluated presentation in the first half of the evening.
