2015 CONCORD FAIR A FESTIVE SUCCESS

Concord West Toastmasters participated in the annual Concord Fair for the second year on Sunday 11th October. Learning many lessons from our first foray into this community event last year we had an excellent position in the Food and Merchants area. 
With our Stall emblazoned with a Corporate Club Sign and some additional Signs leant to us by the District 70 Club Growth Directorate we attracted a lot more attention and interest throughout the day.

We took 25 names and contacts of people specifically expressing a keen interest in attending our Club Meetings in the immediate future. People we can now follow up.

During the day we ran out of Club Flyers, ran out of Club Brochures and recycled older copies of the Toastmaster Magazine with our Club contact details labelled on the front.

Particular thanks to the Club Members who helped to man the stand throughout the day (in the heat); Bernard, Peter, John, Jake, Edna, Kate, Glen, Simon and Paul V.

The main thrust of our promotion was to invite people to the next meeting on the following Tuesday which is structured as an Open Night with a modified Agenda to demonstrate various levels of Speakers, Evaluations, Table Topics and Big Ears, and providing guests with an opportunity to get on their feet and have a go!
We also ran out of those Invitations.

All in all, a great day of community interaction for our Club.

CONCORD WEST SHINES AGAIN AT THE 2015 AREA 6 HUMOROUS & TABLE TOPICS CONTEST

Club Member Glen Hobbs represented Concord West Toastmasters in both the Table Topics Contest and the Humorous Speech Contest on Saturday 10th October.
With his Humorous Speech ‘Village Life’ and his response to the Table Topics question; “What can you do today that your couldn’t do one year ago?”

In yet another very tight contest Glen took out Second Place (Runner Up) in both Contests. This means that if either of the 2 Winners are unable to compete at the Phillip Division Contest on Saturday 23rd October, Glen will be called upon to step in.

The Winners for the day were:

First: Peter Mace – Burwood Toastmasters Club
Second: Glen Hobbs – Concord West Toastmasters Club
Third: Guy Waugh – Smooth Speech Toastmasters Club

HUMOROUS SPEECH CONTEST:
First: John Hughson – Concord Yaralla Toastmasters Club
Second: Glen Hobbs – Concord West Toastmasters Contest
Third: Peter Mace – Burwood Toastmasters Contest

Concord West Club members also undertook significant roles on the day with Club President Bernard acting as Toastmaster for the Humorous Contest and last years dual winner of both the Area 6 Humorous and Table Topics Contests, Heather Gordon acting as Toastmistress for the Table Topics Contest.
Both did an exemplary job and were supported by other Concord Wester’s Lyndal Eager-Tucker as S@A and Kate Crosby as a Counter.

An excellently organised Contest resulting in a very entertaining afternoon.

AREA 6 HUMOROUS & TABLE TOPICS CONTEST – SATURDAY 10th OCTOBER 2015

CONCORD WEST 2015 HUMOROUS & TABLE TOPICS CONTEST

Concord West held their Annual Club Humorous & Table topics Contest on Tuesday 8th September.

Club President Bernard and Vice President Education Kelly are to be congratulated on running an extremely well organised and well attended Club Contest.

Bernard stepped in to fill the role of Contest Chair after the belated apology from Area 6 Director Katherine following a family bereavement. 

They were exceptionally well supported by Toastmaster Lyndal who conducted a text book Contest and Region Adviser, Philip who stepped in as Chief Judge as well as Jake who took on the role as S@A in a slightly different way to his normal duties.

The Competitors in the Speech Contest were Glen and Daniel. 
Glen’s speech title was: “Village Life”.
Daniel’s speech title was: “My Holidays as a Child”.

In the Table Topics Contest the subject was: “If you could teach any subject, what would it be and why?”

The Competitors were:
Daniel, Nick and Glen.

At the end of the Contest the Judges results were tallied and Club President Bernard presented the following Awards:

Table Topics:

• Daniel in Third Place
• Nick in Second Place and 
• Glen in First Place and will go on to represent Concord West at the Area 6 Contest.

Humorous Speech Contest:

• Daniel Second Place and Runner Up
• Glen First Place and will go on to represent Concord West at the Area 6 Contest in yet another ‘double-header for Concord West in recent years.

As part of the Concord West tradition the Winner of the Club Humorous Contest, Glen was also presented with the Tony Spragg Memorial Trophy in honour of a fondly remembered and very humorous past member of our Club who sadly lost his battle with cancer while still a member of Concord West Toastmasters.

Congratulations to all our Contestants.

The opportunity is there to now support Glen as he represents Concord West at the upcoming Area 6 Contest on 10th October at Croydon Park Club.
